The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appointed advisory committee members composed of private experts to obtain advice on diplomatic policies in the field of economic security.
On the 28th, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol attended the inauguration ceremony of the 4th 'Economic Security and Diplomacy Advisory Committee'. At the event, Minister Cho emphasized the serious situation where uncertainties in economic security and the diplomatic environment are increasing, and urged the advisory committee members to provide generous policy suggestions. The advisory committee consists of 16 industry and academic experts in fields such as customs, semiconductors, energy, and critical minerals, including Chairman Heo Yoon, a professor at Sogang University Graduate School of International Studies. The members will serve for the next two years.
At the first advisory committee meeting held immediately after the inauguration ceremony, Second Vice Minister Kang In-seon informed that they are actively communicating with the United States through various channels to effectively respond to several policies announced by the 'Trump 2nd term' administration. He also stated, "In times of high uncertainty, it is important to consolidate domestic and international capabilities more firmly and respond as one team."
In response, the advisory committee members emphasized, "It is important to closely monitor rapidly changing policies and legislation centered on major countries such as the United States and China and to establish a systematic response posture."
