Ulsan City will hold the ‘106th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement Commemoration Ceremony’ at 10 a.m. on March 1st at the Ulsan Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater.
About 1,500 people, including Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, families of independence activists, representatives from various social institutions and organizations, and citizens, will attend the event, which will proceed with ▲ a report on the progress of the March 1st Movement ▲ reading of the Declaration of Independence ▲ awarding of honors to independence activists ▲ singing of the March 1st Movement song ▲ and three cheers of “Manse.”
In particular, at this ceremony, to strengthen the respect for the bereaved families, Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom and the head of the Ulsan branch of the Liberation Association will enter together.
During the awarding of honors to independence activists, the late Park Seong-sam (grandchild Lee Kang-in) will be posthumously awarded the Patriotic Medal, and the late Shin Young-eop (granddaughter Shin Myung-ae) and the late Lee Cha-bong (child Lee Cho-ja) will receive the Presidential Citation.
Before the ceremony, at 9:20 a.m., a memorial service honoring the noble spirits of the patriotic martyrs and national defenders will be held at the ‘Ulsan Anti-Japanese Independence Movement Memorial Tower’ in Daldong Cultural Park, with about 60 members of the Liberation Association participating.
Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom said, “Making Ulsan a ‘City of Dreams’ and a ‘Great Ulsan’ is to honor the will of the patriotic martyrs who sacrificed for the country,” adding, “The people of Ulsan, inheriting the great shout of that day 106 years ago, will be the main actors in making Ulsan bloom as a city of dreams.”
To create a commemorative atmosphere for the March 1st Movement and encourage citizen participation, Ulsan City has displayed large banners on the walls of the City Hall and Council buildings, and raised the Taegeukgi flags around the City Hall fence and along major arterial roads. Additionally, through TV broadcast videos, the city is actively promoting the Taegeukgi flag-raising campaign for all households and workplaces to participate with a patriotic spirit.
