Democratic Party: "Yoon Shows No Remorse Until the End... If He Regains Power, It Will Lead to Catastrophe"

Cho Seungrae, Chief Spokesperson of the Democratic Party, Issues Statement

The Democratic Party of Korea on the 25th urged the Constitutional Court to promptly dismiss President Yoon Seok-yeol, stating that "it has been confirmed that he neither repented nor gave up the rebellion until the end" in relation to President Yoon Seok-yeol's final statement made at the Constitutional Court.

Cho Seung-rae, the chief spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said in a written briefing on the same day regarding President Yoon's 67-minute final statement at the Constitutional Court, "It was a shameless excuse by the ringleader of the rebellion who refuses to acknowledge the rebellion until the end," adding, "Only a swift dismissal can set the Republic of Korea straight." Cho criticized, "The ringleader of the rebellion, Yoon Seok-yeol, sullied the impeachment trial court with shameless lies and groundless claims until the very end," and "even his final statement was filled with blaming others, excuses, and delusions."

He pointed out, "The delusions uttered by Yoon Seok-yeol are horrifying beyond measure," and "He baselessly accused the opposition party of colorism and branded them as ‘anti-state forces.’ Ignoring the separation of powers and constitutional order, he tried to brand the people's representatives as ‘traitors’ to punish them, confirming that such delusions were the essence of the rebellion."

He also fully criticized President Yoon's explanations. He said, "Despite numerous testimonies and evidence already presented, he spewed shameless lies such as ‘appeal martial law’ and ‘peaceful martial law,’" adding, "Armed military forces stormed the National Assembly and the National Election Commission, attempted to illegally arrest various officials, and yet he insists that everything the people saw and heard was a mirage."

Regarding President Yoon's announcement of his return while advocating for constitutional amendments, he also described it as "chilling." Cho said, "The part where he mentioned constitutional amendments and election systems while revealing his plans for a comeback is downright chilling," adding, "The rebel who tried to destroy the constitution by mobilizing the military and police has blatantly revealed his intention to seize power again and manipulate the constitution. Does he think the people will be fooled by such empty wordplay about power transfer?"

Cho warned that a catastrophe could occur if the impeachment trial against President Yoon is dismissed and he returns to power. He said, "If a criminal who still clings to the delusion of rebellion regains power, the constitutional order of the Republic of Korea will fall into an irreversible catastrophe," and "We expect a wise decision from the Constitutional Court."
