Anna Nordqvist (Sweden) has been appointed as the captain of the European team for next year's Solheim Cup, the women's golf competition between the United States and Europe.
The official Solheim Cup website announced on the 24th (local time) that Nordqvist will serve as the European team captain next year. She expressed, "It is an immense honor," adding, "Thanks to the memories built over nine Solheim Cups, participating as a captain in the 10th Solheim Cup is truly special." Next year's Solheim Cup will be held on September 7 in the Netherlands. Historically, the United States leads with 11 wins, 1 draw, and 7 losses.
Nordqvist is a 37-year-old veteran this year. She secured her first victory at the 2009 LPGA Championship on the U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and has won three major tournaments. She has a total of 9 wins on the LPGA Tour and added 5 wins on the Ladies European Tour (LET). Nordqvist has participated in the Solheim Cup nine times, tasting victory five times. In 35 matches, she holds a record of 17 wins, 3 draws, and 15 losses.
