The European Union (EU) is reportedly pushing for an additional military aid package worth a total of 20 billion euros (approximately 28.8 trillion won) for Ukraine.
According to foreign media including Bloomberg on the 21st (local time), this aid package is expected to include various weapons such as ammunition, air defense systems, precision strike missiles, and drones. It is also likely to contain measures to strengthen the combat capabilities of the Ukrainian military.
The EU aims to reach a principled agreement on this aid package at the foreign ministers' meeting scheduled for the 24th. This day marks the third anniversary of the outbreak of the Ukraine war following Russia's invasion in 2022.
However, Hungary has expressed a negative stance toward additional military aid to Ukraine, and Germany’s domestic political situation may be unstable due to early general elections on the 23rd, raising concerns that discussions on the aid package could be delayed more than expected.
This push for the aid package comes amid concerns that U.S. President Donald Trump is rushing to end the war and conducting unilateral negotiations with Russia.
In particular, European countries are strengthening their vigilance, judging that if this war ends under conditions favorable to Russia, Russia could pose an even greater threat to regional security in the future.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are scheduled to visit Washington DC early next week to hold direct talks with President Trump.
