Oh Se-hoon on Lee's 'Democratic Party centrist-conservative' remark: "Must face trial with confidence"

"A Few Actions Needed to Become a True Centrist Conservative Party"

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon emphasized that Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who stated that "the Democratic Party is centrist conservative," should "face the trial with confidence, as a true centrist conservative."

On the morning of the 20th, Mayor Oh posted on Facebook a message titled "Welcome to the Democratic Party of Centrist Conservative Lee Jae-myung," expressing this view. Earlier, after the party's Supreme Council meeting the previous day, Lee said to reporters, "The Democratic Party is not originally a progressive party. It is a centrist conservative party that values growth."

In the post, Mayor Oh responded to Lee's remarks by saying, "Although late, I am glad that you have realized the direction our society should take," and added, "Of course, you may face harsh criticism within the Democratic Party such as 'overstepping authority,' 'undemocratic,' 'party privatization,' and 'historical ignorance,' but Leader Lee, I hope you persevere without 'changing your words'."

He continued, "However, to become a true centrist conservative party, several actions are necessary," pointing out, "First, you should give up indiscriminate cash handouts like '250,000 won to all citizens,' stop being influenced by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, and take the lead in legislative efforts to create a business-friendly country." He also added that Lee should "face the remaining trial with confidence."

Mayor Oh concluded, "If you carry out these three actions, I will gladly acknowledge the sincerity of Lee Jae-myung-style 'centrist conservatism.'"
