U.S. Office of Naval Research Global Highlights Collaboration with UNIST

Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST, President Jongrae Park) held a project briefing and seminar on June 5 at UNIST Haedong Hall to promote cooperation in defense science and technology with the Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG) of the United States Navy.

This collaboration is expected to be an important turning point that not only strengthens defense capabilities but also leads the advancement of science and technology between Korea and the United States. The two institutions plan to establish a foundation to promote research and technological innovation and realize sustainable joint projects between the two countries.


The seminar was attended by key figures including Dr. Brandon Cochenour, Chief Scientist of the Office of Naval Research Global, U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Getts from the U.S. Embassy, and Program Manager Changwon Seo of the Joint U.S. Military Advisory Group-Korea (JUSMAG-K).


At UNIST, 20 faculty members participated, including President Jongrae Park, Vice President for Research Hyunsil Ahn, and Director of Research Kwanmyung Kim.


This event served as an important forum for substantial technological advancement through joint efforts among industry, academia, research institutes, and the public sector. The two institutions plan to deepen their partnership based on mutual trust and understanding.


Dr. Brandon Cochenour, Chief Scientist, stated, “We will be able to further promote innovation in defense technology together with UNIST, which has world-class research capabilities,” adding, “Joint research and projects between the two institutions will lead to significant progress.”


President Jongrae Park said, “Through this international seminar, we will strengthen our position as a global research institution and expand our network,” and added, “We will contribute to ensuring that UNIST plays a key role in the development of future defense technologies.”
