According to the police, Park has been nominated as the new Senior Commissioner General and is reportedly a strong candidate for the next Commissioner General of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Until his promotion to Senior Commissioner General, he may serve as the acting Commissioner General of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

The Senior Commissioner General rank is directly below the Commissioner General, who is the head of the National Police Agency. Excluding the National Investigation Headquarters Chief, whose term is guaranteed, there are six positions at this rank: Deputy Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, and the heads of the Seoul, Busan, Gyeonggi Nambu, and Incheon Metropolitan Police Agencies, as well as the Police University President.

Park, a 10th graduate of the Korean National Police University, has served as Director of the Police Intelligence Bureau, Director of the Crisis Management Center at the National Police Agency, and Chief of the Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul. Under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, he worked in the Personnel Verification Team of the Presidential Transition Committee and was dispatched to the Office of the President’s National Situation Room before being appointed as Director of the Police Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Promotions to Commissioner General, the rank immediately below Senior Commissioner General, were also announced on the same day. Jo Jeong-rae, Police Intelligence Review Officer (Police Commissioner) at the National Police Agency, Nam Je-hyun (Police Commissioner) dispatched to the National Situation Room, and Park Jong-seop (Police Commissioner) dispatched to the Office for Government Policy Coordination have been nominated for promotion to Commissioner General.

The assignments of the new Senior Commissioner General and Commissioner Generals will be determined later through consultations with the local autonomous police committees.
