The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) announced on the 5th that Chairman James Kim (CEO) has been appointed as an executive committee member of the Steering Committee for the '2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit.'
The '2025 APEC CEO Summit' will be held this October in Gyeongju, South Korea, where global business leaders, policymakers, and experts will discuss key economic and regional issues. Chey Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Chairman of SK Group, serves as the Chair and Steering Committee Chair of the summit, while Park Il-joon, Executive Vice Chairman of KCCI, is the Chair of the Executive Committee. The Steering Committee believes that a private-sector-led support system is essential for a successful event and is conducting various activities, including inviting major global CEOs and promoting the APEC summit domestically and internationally, together with executive committee members composed of representatives from Korea’s top 10 conglomerates, major companies, and foreign chambers of commerce in Korea.
Chairman Kim’s appointment is seen as recognition of his leadership and dedication to enhancing Korea-US economic cooperation. Kim stated, "I am very honored to contribute to this important project," adding, "I will work closely to do my best for the successful hosting of APEC 2025." He further emphasized, "The 2025 APEC CEO Summit will be a crucial opportunity to strengthen public-private cooperation and lead sustainable economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region," and added, "It will serve as a stage to showcase South Korea’s resilience and strategic value within the global supply chain to the world."
Chairman Chey Tae-won said, "I am confident that Chairman Kim’s outstanding leadership and global business expertise will add great value to the organizing committee," and added, "His deep insight and extensive experience in global business will play a vital role not only in promoting economic cooperation but also in solidifying Korea’s position as a global economic leader."
Meanwhile, AMCHAM plans to actively support the successful hosting of the 2025 APEC CEO Summit by establishing the APEC 2025 Committee, composed of senior executives from major U.S. companies, and will collaborate with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry to carry out various activities.
