Gwangju and the entire Jeonnam and Jeonbuk regions have been experiencing heavy snowfall for the second consecutive day.


The Gwangju Meteorological Administration issued a heavy snow advisory at 9 a.m. on the 5th for Gwangju and 11 cities and counties in Jeonnam (Naju, Gangjin, Haenam, Wando, Yeongam, Muan, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Mokpo, Shinan, and Jindo).


So far, the recorded snowfall amounts are 15.4 cm at Jangseong Sangmudae, 11.1 cm at Gochang, 10.3 cm at Gwangsan in Gwangju, 10.2 cm at Mokpo, and 8.5 cm at Hampyeong Wolya. In Jeonbuk, the amounts are 29.7 cm at Sunchang Bokheung, 20.2 cm at Gochang, 16.8 cm at Jeongeup, 15.4 cm at Buan Julpo, 10.7 cm at Namwon Baemsagol, and 8.5 cm at Imsil.


For Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk, the forecasted snowfall from today until the 6th is 3 to 10 cm, with some areas expected to receive more than 15 cm.


Since the 3rd, there have been 23 reports in Gwangju, including 13 cases of falls and 4 traffic accidents. In Jeonnam, there have been 9 reports, including vehicles slipping on snowy roads and overturning down hills, which the fire authorities have responded to.


Jeonbuk Province has been operating Emergency Level 2 of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters since the morning of the previous day, focusing on preventing damage from the heavy snow.


An official from the Meteorological Administration said, "Snow accumulation or icy roads are expected even on back roads, alleys, sloped roads, and shaded roads, so please be careful for pedestrian safety."
