38 Flights and 80 Passenger Ships Canceled Amid Heavy Snow and Storm Warnings

Heavy snowfall and strong maritime winds centered around the Chungnam, Jeolla, and Jeju regions caused disruptions to flights and passenger ships on the 4th.

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, as of 6 p.m. that day, 38 flights were canceled, including 6 at Gimpo Airport, 20 at Jeju Airport, and 2 at Cheongju Airport.

With storm warnings issued for most maritime areas, 80 passenger ships on 64 routes, including Mokpo∼Hongdo and Incheon∼Baengnyeong, also suspended operations.

Roads were closed in 16 locations across Chungnam, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, and Jeju.

176 hiking trails in 10 national parks, including Mudeungsan and Dadohae, were closed.

Fire authorities carried out 25 firefighting activities, including 20 safety measures and 5 rescue and first aid operations, reporting no damages.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, snowfall of 1 to 3 cm per hour is expected mainly in Jeolla, Chungnam, and Jeju, with heavy snow warnings expected to expand from the early morning of the 5th.
