Gwangju City announced on the 4th that it will provide eco-friendly hydrogen passenger car purchase subsidies until December 5th as part of its response to the climate crisis.
This year, subsidies will be provided for 150 hydrogen passenger cars, with each vehicle receiving 32.5 million KRW, the same amount as last year. In particular, 15 of these hydrogen vehicles will be prioritized for distribution to vulnerable groups, families with multiple children, and first-time car buyers.
Eligible applicants are citizens, businesses, corporations, or organizations that have had their address registered in Gwangju for at least 90 days as of the application date and are at least 18 years old. Each person is eligible for one vehicle.
Applications can be submitted until December 5th by visiting a Hyundai Motor Company branch or dealership in Gwangju, consulting, signing a purchase contract, and filling out the application form.
However, if a vehicle purchased with the subsidy is deregistered within two years (or within five years for export deregistration), the subsidy will be reclaimed based on the period of vehicle usage. The obligation to return the subsidy lies with the owner at the time of reclamation, so it is recommended to clearly state this in the contract when selling the vehicle.
For more details, refer to the ‘Notices & Announcements’ section on the Gwangju City website or contact a nearby Hyundai dealership or vehicle manufacturer/seller.
Na Byungchun, Director of the Climate and Air Policy Division, said, “A new model of hydrogen car is scheduled to be released this year, so we expect the supply to run out quickly,” and added, “As demand increases, we will strive to secure more budget so that more citizens can benefit.”
