40s Man Arrested and Indicted for Sexual Assault and Murder of Gosiwon Neighbor

A man in his 40s who sexually assaulted and murdered a neighbor in a gosiwon has been brought to trial while in custody.

According to the legal community on the 4th, the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Son Sang-hee) indicted Lee (43) on the 23rd of last month on charges including rape and murder under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, trespassing, and illegal search of a residence.

Lee took a woman in her 20s who lived on the same floor to his room in a gosiwon in Dorim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul on the 4th of last month, sexually assaulted her, and then murdered her. Lee surrendered to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station at 4:30 p.m. the next day and was detained on the 7th of last month.

It was reported that Lee was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime and stated that he committed the crime because the woman refused to give him her phone number.
