Dongwha Electrolyte will continue to expand the supply of electrolyte containing its self-developed battery additive 'PA800'.
Dongwha Electrolyte announced on the 4th that it has recently signed supply contracts for PA800-formulated electrolyte with multiple Asian battery and automotive companies, as well as domestic firms.
PA800 is a key additive for medium- and large-sized lithium-ion battery electrolytes. Dongwha Electrolyte achieved localization by being the first in Korea to develop and mass-produce this material, which was previously entirely imported. It forms protective films on the cathode and anode, removing corrosive substances generated during electrolyte decomposition, thereby preventing battery performance degradation and extending battery life. PA800 improves battery high-temperature stability and output, while delivering equivalent battery performance at a lower cost and with less content compared to general-purpose additives.
It has also obtained a CAS registration number from the American Chemical Society (ACS), which operates the chemical substance registration system. CAS numbers are assigned only when a new structure or composition is recognized for its uniqueness and originality. Last year, PA800 received the Electrolyte Innovation Award at the InterBattery Awards, as well as the Hong Dae-yong Award at the Korea Patent Technology Awards and the IR52 Jang Young-sil Award.
Son Beom-seok, head of the Dongwha Electrolyte Research Center, said, "In addition to PA800, we plan to secure market competitiveness based on a portfolio of function-customized electrolyte additives that improve battery output, high-temperature and voltage stability, and electrolyte stability."
