The Gwangju Meteorological Administration issued a heavy snow advisory at 7 a.m. for Gwangju and 13 cities and counties in Jeonnam (Naju, Damyang, Hwasun, Gangjin, Haenam, Wando, Yeongam, Muan, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Mokpo, Shinan, Jindo), as well as 4 cities and counties in Jeonbuk (Gochang, Gunsan, Gimje, Jeongeup). In addition, a heavy snow warning was issued for Jangseong in Jeonnam and Buan and Sunchang in Jeonbuk.
Snow accumulation has been recorded as follows: Bukheung in Sunchang 17.1 cm, Sangmudae in Jangseong 15.4 cm, Gochang 11.1 cm, Gwangsan in Gwangju 10.3 cm, Mokpo 10.2 cm, and Wolya in Hampyeong 8.5 cm.
In Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk, the expected snowfall from today until the 6th is 5 to 20 cm, with some areas forecasted to receive more than 30 cm.
The severe cold continues as well. Morning temperatures have dropped sharply by about 5 to 10 degrees, and most areas will remain below -5 degrees Celsius for the time being.
Due to the heavy snow, 45 passenger ships on 38 routes to and from Jeonnam have been canceled. Some hiking trails in national parks within the province, such as Mudeungsan, Wolchulsan, and Jirisan, have also been partially closed.
In Gwangju, there was one single-vehicle traffic accident and one pedestrian slip accident overnight. In Jeonnam, the fire department responded to five safety incidents, including trees shaking due to strong winds.
An official from the Korea Meteorological Administration said, "Since the accumulated snow may freeze and create icy roads and black ice in many areas, we ask that you secure a sufficient safety distance and reduce speed when driving to ensure traffic safety."
