Ku Jun-yeop (55), a singer formerly of the group Clon, received the heartbreaking news that his wife, famous Taiwanese actress Xu Xiyuan (Seo Huiwon, 48), passed away from acute pneumonia.
On the 3rd, Ku Jun-yeop briefly shared his feelings with Ilgan Sports, saying, "I am not okay." Regarding rumors suggesting fake news, Ku Jun-yeop firmly denied them, stating, "That is not true."
The couple, who married in 2022, had a movie-like love story that sparked great interest in both Korea and Taiwan. They first met and dated in 1998 when Clon was active and very popular in Taiwan, but broke up after a year due to opposition from their agency and other reasons. Xu Xiyuan later married Chinese food tycoon Wang Xiaofei in 2011, with whom she had one son and one daughter, and divorced in 2021.
Afterward, Ku Jun-yeop contacted Xu Xiyuan, and the two reunited after 20 years, eventually becoming official spouses. At that time, Ku Jun-yeop announced their marriage on social media, saying, "After hearing about her divorce, I found that old number from 20 years ago and reached out. Fortunately, the number was still the same, so we were able to reconnect." On a Korean variety show, Ku Jun-yeop shared a video capturing their reunion after 23 years and tearfully said, "If I had to pick the most memorable moment in my life when I die, it would be that moment."
Since their marriage, despite facing fake news about health issues, infidelity, and discord, the couple consistently displayed unwavering affection by sharing loving moments on social media.
Especially poignant was Xu Xiyuan’s last post on social media, which expressed her love for her husband Ku Jun-yeop. Posted on December 21 last year, it featured Ku Jun-yeop performing on the stage of KBS's '2024 Gayo Daechukje' on December 20, where he appeared with a junior idol group to perform Clon’s signature song "Choryeon." In the post, Xu Xiyuan wrote, "Clon forever. DJ KOO is truly amazing," showing her deep affection for her husband.
Tributes from Korean and Taiwanese netizens continue to pour in on the social media accounts of the late Xu Xiyuan and Ku Jun-yeop.
Taiwanese media outlets such as Central News Agency (CNA) and Liberty Times reported that Xu Xiyuan recently passed away from pneumonia caused by the flu during a family trip to Japan. Xu Xiyuan’s younger sister, Xu Xidi, stated, "During the Lunar New Year holiday, our family traveled to Japan, but my beloved sister Xu Xiyuan sadly left us due to pneumonia complications from the flu." Xu Xiyuan’s family plans to cremate her remains in Japan and bring them back to Taiwan, with funeral arrangements currently being discussed.
