Yoon Sang-hyun: "Early Election by the Opposition is a Pipe Dream... Fair Judgment on Yoon's Impeachment Must Come First"

Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, stated, "The opposition is busy promoting an early presidential election," emphasizing that "this is not the time to chase unrealistic dreams, but rather to fairly proceed with the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol according to the Constitution, laws, and conscience."

On the 31st, Yoon criticized on Facebook, "These days, the opposition seems to have already decided on President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment trial and is busy promoting an early presidential election," adding, "Some conservative-leaning figures are also showing signs of agreeing with this."

Yoon claimed that the opposition has two strategic purposes in trying to make an early presidential election a foregone conclusion. He said, "The first is 'Do not block the presidential candidacy of Lee Jae-myung, the leading opposition candidate,'" describing it as "an implicit threat to the judiciary to issue a ruling that maintains Lee's eligibility related to the second trial of the Public Official Election Act." The second is to tell the Constitutional Court justices to "impeach President Yoon unconditionally, regardless of law and principles." He argued, "I believe this is to send a silent message that they will not take responsibility for the consequences of this (impeachment outcome)."

Yoon mentioned the Constitutional Court's bias and unfairness, the illegal investigation and arrest by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), the illegal warrant issuance by the Western District Court, the prosecution's acknowledgment of the CIO's illegal investigation and the wrongful indictment and detention of President Yoon, the KakaoTalk censorship against the public, and impeachment threats against Acting Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok. He criticized, "Despite the entire country collapsing due to illegality, irregularity, and unfairness, it is despicable to see the Democratic Party and the opposition prioritizing regime change through an early presidential election." He added, "For that gain, they have thrown away the people's livelihood and carried out impeachment and legislative rampages."

Yoon emphasized that the early presidential election is an issue after President Yoon's impeachment trial. He stressed that now is not the time to chase uncertain dreams of the future but to fairly proceed with the impeachment trial of President Yoon according to the Constitution, laws, and conscience. He added, "Preventing rulings based on political bias is the top priority," and raised his voice, saying, "I will make every effort to this end, regardless of political interests."
