A man who beat his mother suffering from dementia to death during the Lunar New Year holiday was arrested by the police.

The Gwangju Dongbu Police Station applied for an arrest warrant on the 30th for A (64), the son, on charges of killing his elderly mother by punching her (parricide).

A is accused of repeatedly hitting the face of his 80-year-old mother B, who lived with him, at an apartment in Hak-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju, at 12:11 a.m. on the 29th, the day of the Lunar New Year.

Immediately after the crime, A informed a friend of the incident by phone, and was caught at the scene by the police who arrived following the friend's report.

A is known to have lived alone with B, who was suffering from dementia, in the apartment.

The police are investigating the detailed circumstances of the case, including the motive, based on the family's statement that B had been suffering from dementia.
