According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, heavy snowfall of about 1 to 5 cm per hour is currently falling mainly in Gangwon-do, Chungcheong region, and Jeolla region, where heavy snow warnings have been issued, and it is expected to accumulate more than 20 cm by the 28th.


Ko Gi-dong, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (acting Minister of the Interior and Safety), urged related agencies to concentrate all efforts on responding to the heavy snow. He stated, "Above all, the most important thing is to minimize inconvenience to the public and prevent casualties," adding, "To ensure that the public can have a safe Lunar New Year holiday, we will mobilize the whole-of-government capabilities centered on the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to fully respond to the heavy snow and cold wave."
