Chairman Kwon pointed out, "From the prosecution's perspective, they were not satisfied with the current investigation status and thought an extension of detention was necessary, so they applied for an extension of the warrant period. If the court denied the extension, they should have conducted a thorough investigation even without detention and made a perfect judgment on whether to indict." He added, "However, the prosecution hastily indicted based on what they received from the Corruption Investigation Office without following such procedures."
He added, "Going forward, including the abolition of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, these aspects of the prosecution should be fully reflected in the adjustment of investigative authority between the prosecution and the police."
Floor Chief Spokesperson Kim Dae-sik stated in a commentary, "The prosecution has shown itself to have degenerated into a 'subcontracted agency' and 'indictment proxy' of the Corruption Investigation Office by forcibly proceeding with the indictment based on the illegal investigation by the Corruption Investigation Office instead of punishing it."
Chief Spokesperson Kim emphasized, "The prosecution must take responsibility for any future faulty indictments, and a thorough investigation and legal accountability for the illegal investigation process of the Corruption Investigation Office must be pursued."
Regarding the judiciary, Chief Spokesperson Kim said, "The procedural and legal issues of this indictment must be clearly pointed out during the trial process," and urged, "We call for the foundation of the rule of law to be restored through dismissal of the indictment."
Ruling party figures also uniformly criticized the prosecution's indictment with detention of President Yoon and urged the court to take measures such as dismissal of the indictment.
Assemblywoman Na Kyung-won emphasized on Facebook, "The court must now thoroughly examine the illegality of the illegal investigation and faulty indictment," and added, "It should release excessive detention through a discretionary bail decision and actively consider dismissal of the indictment."
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon expressed deep regret through Facebook over "the indictment of the president carried out without investigation," and urged, "Now the public's eyes are on the court. There should be no procedural controversies left during the trial process."
