28-Vehicle Pile-Up at 48 km Mark Toward Cheongju
Another 4-Vehicle Collision Occurs 1 km Away

Multiple pile-up accidents occurred as cars slipped on snowy roads in the Sangju section of the Dangjin-Yeongdeok Expressway in Gyeongbuk.


According to the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency Highway Patrol on the 27th, a 28-vehicle pile-up accident happened around 11 a.m. at the 48 km mark on the Dangjin-Yeongdeok Expressway heading towards Cheongju in Hwanam-myeon, Sangju-si.


A similar 4-vehicle pile-up accident occurred around the 47 km mark, about 1 km away, at roughly the same time.


The police reported that so far, 12 people were slightly injured at the 48 km point and 3 people at the 47 km point, totaling 15 minor injuries.


Korea Expressway Corporation temporarily rerouted vehicles entering Hwaseo IC in Hwaseo-myeon, Sangju-si, onto national roads due to the aftermath of the accidents.


A police official explained, "Both accidents appear to have been caused by slipping on snowy roads, and traffic is now moving as tow trucks have arrived. Since some vehicles left the scene after the accidents, further investigation is needed to determine the exact details."
