Hong Jun-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, stated on the 26th regarding the investigation of President Yoon Seok-yeol, "Politics was in chaos, and now even the investigative agencies and judiciary are in a state of confusion."
Through his Facebook on the same day, Mayor Hong said, "They are not police judges from the Japanese colonial era, yet they are issuing illegal warrants indiscriminately; they are not police officers from the Japanese colonial era, yet they are making illegal arrests and detentions recklessly. I am deeply concerned about what harsh responsibilities they intend to bear later," adding, "Only the judges who dismissed the extension of detention periods are following due legal procedures."

The prosecution applied to the Seoul Central District Court to extend President Yoon's detention period immediately after receiving the case from the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (Gong-su-cheo), but the request was denied.
Mayor Hong pointed out, "During the Moon Jae-in administration, when investigative authority was forcibly adjusted, only the police had the authority to investigate treason, but this time, while investigating treason, the prosecution, which does not have investigative authority, rushed in and took the lead, rendering all the prosecution's investigation documents useless, and the Gong-su-cheo's investigation documents also became useless."
He continued, "The investigative authority held by the prosecution or Gong-su-cheo is only for abuse of power, but investigating treason based on this is no different from detaining someone for a minor offense during the Fifth Republic era and investigating them for violating the National Security Law," and criticized, "Those who enforce the law are exercising authority not granted by law to illegally arrest and detain people, and now they say they will prosecute based on those scraps of paper."
