Na Kyung-won Targets Constitutional Court, Says "Opposition's Indiscriminate Impeachment Should Proceed First"

"The Republic of Korea's System Is Shaking and the Rule of Law Is Collapsing"
"Appointing Ma Eun-hyuk Means Saving Lee Jae-myung"

Na Kyung-won, a member of the People Power Party, targeted the Constitutional Court, arguing that "to determine whether the president's martial law violates the constitution, it is only natural to first proceed with the impeachment trials that have been indiscriminately carried out by the opposition party so far."

Na Kyung-won, a member of the People Power Party, criticized the Constitutional Court's decision to determine on the 3rd of next month whether the suspension of Ma Eun-hyeok, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, from appointment as a Constitutional Court justice is unconstitutional, saying, "It will only be seen as an attempt to save Lee Jae-myung."

On the 25th, Na said this on her Facebook, stating, "Unlike during the impeachment trial of former President Park Geun-hye, the Constitutional Court is now talking about the 'complete nine-member panel' and says it will first make a judgment regarding the appointment of Justice Ma Eun-hyuk." She clarified that "the three justices recommended by the National Assembly should, in principle, be one from the ruling party, one from the opposition, and one agreed upon by both parties." There is no bipartisan agreement on nominee Ma Eun-hyuk. She warned, "If the Constitutional Court makes a decision to appoint nominee Ma Eun-hyuk without considering all these circumstances, it will only be seen as Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae, a 'close friend and classmate' of Lee Jae-myung, 'saving Lee Jae-myung.'"

She also pointed out, "Among the more than ten impeachment trials still pending at the Constitutional Court, only the case of Lee Jin-sook, Chairwoman of the Korea Communications Commission, has been judged and then left pending." She criticized, "The impeachment of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, which is most important for national stability, is a turtle-paced trial." Furthermore, she said, "After the martial law, all constitutional and legal procedures have thoroughly collapsed, leading to illegal investigations, illegal arrests, procedural shortcuts in warrants, and the Constitutional Court's procedures reaching their peak." She added, "If the Constitutional Court is to determine whether the president's martial law constitutes a constitutional violation warranting dismissal, it is only natural to first proceed with the impeachment trials indiscriminately carried out by the opposition party so far."

Regarding the early presidential election movement, she criticized, "These days, there are rumors about who will appear, who is the constant, and everyone is busy jumping on the early election bandwagon." She said, "Is this the time for that? In short, it is a situation where everyone is only interested in personal gain." She emphasized, "While the system of the Republic of Korea is shaking and the rule of law is collapsing, the attention is elsewhere," and stressed, "The most important mission for ruling party politicians right now is to guarantee the appropriateness and fairness of constitutional and criminal procedures."
