It is very unusual for an LPGA Tour event to be canceled two months in advance. In a statement, the LPGA Tour explained the reason for the cancellation, saying, "The tournament organizer failed to fulfill their payment obligations to the LPGA Tour." This means that Purehills, the title sponsor of the tournament, did not pay the tournament sanction fees and other dues to the LPGA Tour.
The investment company Purehills has been the title sponsor of this tournament since last year. Park Seri participated as the host and held an LPGA Tour event named after herself for the first time, but it was scrapped after just one year. The Purehills Park Seri Championship was the third LPGA Tour event hosted by a former player, following the Mizuho Americas Open (Michelle Wie West) and the Annika Driven (Annika Sorenstam). At last year's tournament, Nelly Korda (USA) won. The Purehills Park Seri Championship was scheduled to be held for four days starting March 20 at the Palos Verdes Golf Club near Los Angeles, California, USA.
