Hong Jun-pyo on Yoon's Detention Extension Denial: "He Followed Lee Jae-myung's Orders, Serves Him Right"

Hong Jun-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, criticized the rejection of President Yoon Seok-yeol's request for an extension of his detention period, saying, "He moved under the orders of Lee Jae-myung, and serves him right."

On the night of the 24th, Mayor Hong posted on his Facebook, "The judge issued an invalid warrant, the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) prosecutor forcibly detained the president with this warrant, and the CIO, which has no investigative authority, conducted no investigation and referred the case to the prosecution."

He added, "The prosecution applied for an extension of the detention period without reviewing the relevant laws, but the request was rejected, and they say they will indict without investigation."

Mayor Hong said, "Is treason such a light crime to be handled so carelessly?" and added, "Seeing the actions of the CIO and the prosecution, which deal with serious crimes, I, who was originally an advocate for abolishing the CIO, am now even considering whether the prosecution's investigative authority should also be abolished."

Earlier, on the night of the 24th, the court denied the request to extend President Yoon Seok-yeol's detention period. The prosecution's special investigation team reapplied for the detention extension at dawn on the 25th, just four hours after the court's decision. They argue that, based on precedents and the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Act, the prosecutor's supplementary investigative authority is recognized.
