Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) emphasized the importance of influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday and urged compliance with infectious disease prevention guidelines.
Although the number of suspected influenza cases in the second week of 2025 is showing a decreasing trend, it still records the highest level of outbreak since 2016. In particular, the Lunar New Year holiday is a time when gatherings among family and relatives increase, raising concerns about the spread of respiratory infectious diseases.
To prevent this, basic preventive measures such as ▲proper hand washing ▲observing cough etiquette ▲regular ventilation ▲wearing masks must be strictly followed. High-risk groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, children, and adolescents are recommended to complete their vaccinations before the Lunar New Year holiday.
The target groups for the 2024?2025 influenza vaccine season are ▲those aged 65 and older (born on or before December 31, 1959) ▲pregnant women (regardless of gestational age) ▲children aged 6 months to 13 years (born between January 1, 2011, and August 31, 2024). COVID-19 vaccinations are being administered to ▲those aged 65 and older ▲residents and inpatients of infection-vulnerable facilities ▲immunocompromised individuals.
Medical institutions where vaccinations are available during the Lunar New Year holiday can be checked on the Uijeongbu City Public Health Center website’s notice section and the Vaccination Helper website. Since vaccine availability may vary depending on the remaining stock at each institution, it is necessary to confirm by phone before visiting.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, “This Lunar New Year holiday is a time when infectious disease prevention is more important than ever,” and added, “I hope everyone has a safe and healthy holiday by thoroughly following vaccinations and infectious disease prevention guidelines to protect the health of family and relatives.”
