Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that starting from the 14th of this month until mid-March, it is conducting a ‘Communication Tour’ by visiting 18 neighborhood community centers to share this year’s key projects and neighborhood-specific issues.

During the ‘Communication Tour,’ explanations are provided on this year’s key projects such as ▲the undergrounding of the Gyeongbu Line railway ▲demolition of the Yeongdeungpo Rotary overpass and installation of a rainwater pumping station ▲redevelopment of the Yeongdeungpo Station shantytown ▲revitalization of semi-industrial areas, as well as various neighborhood-specific issues including ▲additional creation of healthy barefoot walking paths ▲prevention of frequent flooding areas ▲improvements to school routes.

As the core of local autonomy is the ‘voice of the residents,’ the Communication Tour aims to listen to residents’ opinions and incorporate ‘what residents want’ into policies to bring about changes that residents can feel.

Residents of Dangsan 2-dong, Dorim-dong, and Mullae-dong, who participated earlier, attentively listened to explanations from the district mayor and neighborhood heads, resolving questions about local issues. They also suggested installing crosswalks around apartments for children’s safety and establishing closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems to prevent illegal dumping of garbage.

Since taking office, Mayor Choi Ho-kwon has emphasized communication with residents. In his first New Year after inauguration, he visited all 170 senior centers to engage with the elderly, and held on-site meetings with parents by visiting all 44 elementary, middle, and high schools. Additionally, to quickly share district news and facilitate two-way communication, the ‘Our Neighborhood Talk Reporter’ program is being operated. The ‘Free Transportation Bus for Reservists’ service began after hearing the story of a reservist youth, demonstrating how the district closely communicates with residents and reflects their needs in actual policies.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “I will do my best to carefully address neighborhood issues and reflect what residents want in policies to realize true local autonomy,” adding, “I will listen to residents’ voices and continuously communicate to complement the shortcomings of representative democracy and realize direct democracy.”
