Yoo Seung-min: "I Must Become the People Power Party's Presidential Candidate to Defeat Lee Jae-myung"

"Martial Law Was a Failed Rebellion"
"Recent Rise in Approval Ratings... A Poisonous Poll"

Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min stated, "I must become the candidate to defeat Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea."

On the 22nd, Yoo said on MBN's YouTube channel, when asked if he was considering running in an early presidential election, "I have always dreamed of challenging the presidency and have never abandoned that dream."

Regarding his declaration of candidacy, he said, "Asking whether I will run is an unnecessary question," adding, "The timing depends on seeing the impeachment trial." Considering he is a candidate from the ruling party, he implied that he can only step forward after observing the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-youl.

Addressing criticism that he is strong among centrist voters but weak within the People Power Party, he said, "The biggest difficulty in passing the primary is being weak among party members and People Power Party supporters," but added, "I am more aware than anyone else of how dangerous the country will become if Lee Jae-myung becomes the Democratic Party candidate and president." This is interpreted as his intention to persuade party members by emphasizing his competitiveness in the general election.

Regarding President Yoon's declaration of martial law, he emphasized the need for reflection. He said, "(Martial law) violated the Constitution and laws and was a failed rebellion," adding, "We must truly reflect and apologize for the serious mistakes committed by the president and find a new path for conservative reconstruction starting from here."

On the rising trend in his party support ratings, he expressed concern, calling it a "poisonous poll," and warned, "If People Power Party believes that conservative politics is heading in the right direction based on that poll, there is no more dangerous path."
