This program is designed to enhance pet welfare and alleviate the burden on residents by offering professional foster care services to those who face difficulties in caring for their pets.

The support targets recipients of basic livelihood security, low-income households, single-parent families, and others. The pet foster care service will operate until December 31 of this year or until the budget is exhausted. Foster care is available for up to 10 days per pet, including during the Lunar New Year holiday period. In cases of long-term absence such as hospitalization, foster care can be extended up to 50 days.

Residents wishing to use the service can visit the pet foster care centers to fill out an application form and submit documents proving their eligibility. Acceptable documents include certificates of basic livelihood security, confirmation of low-income status, and single-parent family certificates.

Previously, in December last year, the district recruited professional foster care providers and selected the final providers after comprehensively reviewing facility size, condition, and inspection results. The selected foster care centers are ‘H Animal Hospital’ and ‘Kkotboda Gae,’ both of which accept dogs and cats. For inquiries about Gangbuk-gu pet foster care centers, contact the district office’s Regional Economy Division.

District Mayor Lee Soon-hee stated, “Vulnerable residents may face greater difficulties when there is a gap in pet care,” adding, “We will continue to develop various support measures related to pet welfare to ensure residents can live with peace of mind.”
