Gwangju United Technology Holdings announced on the 21st that it received the Grand Prize in the technology commercialization support category at the "2025 New Year Meeting of the Research and Development Special Zone Foundation" held in Daejeon on the 20th.


The Ministry of Science and ICT selected Gwangju United Technology Holdings as the recipient of the award, recognizing its innovative achievements in technology commercialization and its contribution to building the technology commercialization ecosystem nationwide. The company was also highly evaluated for its role as a leading regional investment institution, and was awarded the Minister's Prize.


Gwangju United Technology Holdings has been at the forefront of successfully integrating outstanding technologies from local universities into industry. To date, it has established 40 startups as subsidiaries and registered them as research institute companies in the Gwangju R&D Special Zone. Selected for the Korea Venture Investment Corp.'s Fund of Funds, it has created three funds totaling 11.1 billion KRW and invested 8.7 billion KRW in 31 companies, helping to build the regional startup ecosystem.


Notably, SOS LAB, a company invested in by Gwangju United Technology Holdings, achieved a significant milestone by being listed on KOSDAQ in June last year. This is considered a representative example demonstrating the company's investment strategy and expertise in technology commercialization. SOS LAB develops LiDAR, a core technology for autonomous vehicles.


Kim Yosu, CEO of Gwangju United Technology Holdings, expressed his gratitude, saying, "This award is thanks to the challenges and passion of startup entrepreneurs and the meticulous support from Gwangju City, especially Mayor Kang Gijung's 'Demonstration Standard City, Gwangju' initiative, which is creating a highly successful ecosystem."


Kim added, "It is urgent to establish regional funds to secure investment capital for the challenging and demanding field of technology commercialization."


Meanwhile, Gwangju United Technology Holdings has built a virtuous cycle model for technology commercialization through nurturing and supporting outstanding startups, and has grown into a specialized investment institution in technology commercialization.
