A police officer working at a district police station in Busan was found dead from a gunshot wound.


According to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency on the 21st, Officer A was found dead from a gunshot wound on the third floor of a police box in Busan at around 12:15 p.m. that day.


It was reported that Officer A was found dead during a break while on duty.


A police official stated, "It is presumed that the officer took their own life," adding, "The exact circumstances of the death are under investigation."

Previously, on December 25 last year, a similar incident occurred at another police box in Busan. Officer B, who was on duty at the time, was found dead from a gunshot wound by colleagues.


It was confirmed that Officer B used a handgun they possessed to take their own life while colleagues were responding to a report.


Within the police force, as similar incidents continue, voices are emerging calling for systematic checks on the working environment and stress management for officers on the scene.
