Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 21st that Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, was elected as the 12th president of the National Lifelong Learning Cities Association.

원본보기 아이콘The National Lifelong Learning Cities Association, founded in 2004, has played a pivotal role in lifelong learning policies in the Republic of Korea. Currently, a total of 273 member institutions participate, including 199 local governments and 74 regional education offices.
The association aims to achieve sustainable regional development and improve citizens' quality of life through lifelong learning. It strengthens the status of lifelong learning in Korea through inter-city cooperation, policy linkage, and the establishment of global networks.
The 12th board of directors is centered around President Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, and includes Lee Ki-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu; Kim Yi-gang, Mayor of Seo-gu, Gwangju; Kim Kyung-il, Mayor of Paju; and Kwon Ki-chang, Mayor of Andong. Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, and Han Mi-ra, Superintendent of Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Southern Support Office, were elected as auditors. The new executive team will work together to expand lifelong learning policies and strengthen cooperative networks until January 27, 2027.
Eunpyeong-gu received the UNESCO Learning City Award last December, established a local learning system through the Eunpyeong 1-dong-1-University project, and has been recognized in the field of lifelong learning by establishing citizen-led lifelong education. Additionally, Mayor Kim Mi-kyung served as the 11th auditor of the National Lifelong Learning Cities Association, actively contributing to policy proposals and strengthening cooperation among member cities.
Mayor Kim Mi-kyung stated, “Lifelong learning is the most powerful tool to grow individuals and communities,” adding, “Through cooperation with member cities, we will achieve mutual growth and innovation among lifelong learning cities. Based on our experience in promoting region-tailored lifelong learning and resident-centered innovative policies, we will spread the importance of lifelong learning and lead a new leap forward.”
