The province explained that the free tolls were decided to provide convenience to residents visiting their hometowns and ancestral graves, and to help activate the local economy by encouraging the use of major tourist destinations within the province during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that free tolls will be implemented on these three privately operated roads for four days (a total of 96 hours) from midnight on the 27th to midnight on the 30th during the Lunar New Year holiday period. The toll fees waived for these roads are 1,200 KRW for Ilsan Bridge, 2,600 KRW for the main line of the 3rd Gyeongin Expressway, and 1,000 KRW for the Seo-Suwon to Uiwang Expressway, based on passenger cars.

The usage method remains the same as usual: vehicles equipped with Hi-Pass should use the Hi-Pass lane, and regular vehicles should pass through the toll booth.

Gyeonggi Province expects a total of approximately 1.76 million vehicles to use these roads during the free toll period, including 300,000 vehicles on Ilsan Bridge, 890,000 on the 3rd Gyeongin Expressway, and 570,000 on the Seo-Suwon to Uiwang Expressway.

The province has been implementing the toll waiver policy since Lunar New Year 2017. The policy was suspended from Lunar New Year 2020 in line with the government-wide social distancing measures due to the spread of COVID-19 but has been reinstated since Chuseok 2022.

Kang Seong-seup, Director of the Construction Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, “We are providing convenience to road users such as homebound travelers and tourists by implementing free tolls on privately operated roads managed by the province during the Lunar New Year holiday period. We hope all residents have a warm and comfortable Lunar New Year holiday.”
