Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 21st that it will officially begin the public purchase of artifacts (museum materials).

To establish a public museum, the city has collected a total of about 1,515 items so far, including the Gyeonggi Province-designated heritage Jeon (傳) Wolsan Daegun Yoyeo.


In 2025, the city plans to prioritize the purchase of artifacts related to the "Imjin War" and "King Sukjong & Bukhansanseong," as well as collect materials related to figures and clans from Goyang City.


Individuals, corporations, organizations, and cultural heritage dealers (holders of Cultural Heritage Administration permits) who wish to sell can apply for up to 20 items per person, but artifacts with unclear ownership or provenance will be excluded from purchase.


Details such as documents related to the sale application can be found in the announcement section on the city’s website, and applications can be submitted via email from February 17 to 21. Submitted artifacts will undergo document screening and evaluation by the artifact review and assessment committee to determine final purchase decisions.


Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, "This public purchase of artifacts is an important process in collecting Goyang’s historical heritage," and added, "We ask for active interest and participation so that opportunities for citizens to enjoy these artifacts together can be provided at the public museum to be established in the future."


A Goyang Special City official stated, "We also plan to launch a donation campaign soon for historical, cultural, and artistic materials related to Goyang City."


Meanwhile, Goyang City, which possesses rich historical content such as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Seooreung and Seosamneung, Bukhansanseong, Haengjusanseong?the victorious site of the three major battles of the Imjin War?Donaedong Paleolithic site, the first cultivated rice Kawaji rice seeds, King Gongyang’s tomb of the Goryeo Dynasty, and Byeokjegwan of the Joseon Dynasty, currently lacks facilities to highlight these assets and is promoting the establishment of a public museum.
