The Reform New Party held an emergency Supreme Council meeting on the 21st, led by floor leader Cheon Haram, and suspended Party Leader Heo Eun-ah from her duties.
The Reform New Party announced that it held the emergency Supreme Council meeting in the National Assembly Members' Office Building briefing room that morning and passed the resolution accordingly.
Floor leader Cheon Haram stated, "The reasons for recalling Party Leader Heo Eun-ah listed in the party member recall request include violations of the party constitution and regulations during the appointment process of party officials, improper orders and control over party secretariat officials, and privatization of the party for personal promotion."
Attending the meeting were Lee Ju-young, policy chief aligned with Lee Jun-seok, and Supreme Council members Lee Ki-in and Jeon Seong-gyun, while Party Leader Heo and her close aide Supreme Council member Jo Dae-won were absent.
At the emergency Supreme Council meeting, the implementation of the party member recall system for Party Leader Heo and Supreme Council member Jo, along with their suspension from duties, was simultaneously resolved.
On the other hand, Heo’s side immediately refuted this decision. Heo wrote on her Facebook that day, "Like Lee Jun-seok who stood against Yoon Seok-yeol, Heo Eun-ah will resist unjust factionalization in the same way."
Jeong Guk-jin, senior spokesperson for the Reform New Party on Heo’s side, protested, saying, "Floor leader Cheon Haram is pushing for and attempting a party member recall as if it is possible without any reason, but our party constitution stipulates that a recall can be requested only in cases of 'serious reasons that prevent the performance of duties such as violations of laws, party constitution and regulations, or ethical codes.'"
He added, "Floor leader Cheon, who does not have the authority to convene the Supreme Council, illegally convened the Supreme Council and declared and resolved the ‘implementation of the party member recall vote’ under the guise of the Supreme Council. Such a resolution cannot even be passed by a formally convened Supreme Council," he asserted.
