Trump "25% Tariffs Imposed on Canada and Mexico Starting February 1"

U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 20th (local time) that he is considering imposing a 25% tariff starting February 1 on Mexico and Canada, the counterpart countries of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

President Trump stated during a Q&A session with reporters at the White House that "They are allowing a tremendous number of (illegal border crossers). Canada is a very bad abuser," expressing this view.

Earlier, right after winning the presidential election in November last year, President Trump publicly announced that he would impose an additional 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada, and a 10% tariff on China on his inauguration day, citing their failure to prevent illegal immigration and drug inflow.
