The United States Senate unanimously approved the nomination of Marco Rubio as Secretary of State on the 20th (local time). This is the first case of a cabinet nominee in President Donald Trump's second-term administration to pass Senate confirmation.
Rubio, a former U.S. Senator from Florida, was confirmed by the Senate with 99 votes in favor and 0 against. Accordingly, he will lead the foreign policy of the Trump second-term administration based on the principle of "peace through strength."
Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, was a strong competitor against President Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primary but became a loyal supporter of Trump immediately after his defeat.
