The Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment conducted inspections on 59 personal cleansing cosmetic products (such as foam cleansers and body cleansers), which are regionally designated items by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, as well as 20 toothpaste quasi-drug products.
As a result, all tested cosmetic products were found to contain levels of six heavy metals?lead, arsenic, cadmium, antimony, nickel, and mercury?below the permissible limits set by the 'Regulations on Cosmetic Safety Standards, etc.'
For quasi-drugs, all products met the standards specified in their product licenses or notifications, including appearance tests, pH, and effective ingredient content, as well as the criteria set by the relevant testing methods.
The Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment conducts annual quality control and proactive monitoring of cosmetic and quasi-drug products distributed in the Jeonnam region according to the yearly plans of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the provincial Food and Drug Division. This year, about 80 cosmetic and quasi-drug products will be inspected two to four times throughout the year.
Yang Hocheol, head of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Division at the Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment, said, "The institute will continue to conduct reliable quality inspections of cosmetics and quasi-drugs to ensure the safety of residents."
