The National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 21st that it will invest 2.43 billion KRW in seven fields of the "International Standardization Cooperation Project," which jointly develops international standards in advanced industrial sectors.

The investment amount has increased by 49.8% compared to the previous year (1.6 billion KRW). First, 270 million KRW will be newly invested in the "quantum technology" field. Through this, domestic research institutions will collaborate with overseas research institutions in the UK, the US, and others to develop international standards such as quantum sensing and quantum system performance measurement methods over the next four years.

Additionally, 2.16 billion KRW will be supported for ongoing projects in six fields: artificial intelligence (AI), advanced robotics, next-generation ships, hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, and core materials. In the first year of the project last year, based on global networks by field, 13 standards (drafts) were jointly developed, including the "performance evaluation method for storage device connection hoses used in hydrogen transportation." This year, support will continue in these fields to sustain such achievements.

Oh Gwanghae, Acting Director of the National Institute of Technology and Standards, stated, “We will accelerate the development of international standards that will lead the global market entry of our innovative technologies by leveraging strategic partnerships with major countries,” and added, “We will continue to expand support for the joint development of international standards in advanced industrial fields.”
