Ministry of National Defense Approves Project Plan for Daegu Military Airport Relocation Project

The Ministry of National Defense announced on the 21st that it has completed approval of the project plan for the relocation of Daegu Military Airport, applied for by Daegu Metropolitan City.

This project plan approval is a procedure that grants Daegu City, the project implementer, the qualification to compensate for land and buildings within the project area, in accordance with the "Act on Defense and Military Facilities Projects," considering the characteristics of the military airport relocation project which requires securing a large-scale site.

According to current law, projects with more than 50 landowners and a project implementation area of over 330,000㎡ require approval from the Ministry of National Defense (Military Facilities Planning Officer).

Previously, since 2022, the Ministry of National Defense and Daegu City have prepared in advance for the project plan approval by conducting cultural heritage surveys, feasibility studies on mountain area conversion, and strategic environmental impact assessments. After Daegu City applied for project plan approval, the Ministry of National Defense approved the project plan through procedures including public announcement of the project plan, hearing opinions, consultations with related central administrative agencies and the Central Land Acquisition Committee, and confirmation of Daegu City's implementation plan.

The Ministry of National Defense stated, "We will continue to closely cooperate with related agencies to smoothly promote the Daegu Military Airport relocation project."
