Meeting between Kwon Seong-dong and Lee Ho-young fails... Ruling party expresses "regret over unilateral cancellation"

The People Power Party expressed regret over the failure of the meeting between Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong and Acting Commissioner of the National Police Agency Lee Ho-young on the 20th.

Seo Ji-young, the party's floor spokesperson, told reporters at the National Assembly in the afternoon, "Although a meeting between Acting Commissioner Lee and Floor Leader Kwon was scheduled, the Acting Commissioner unilaterally canceled the appointment," she said.

The People Power Party had announced through a press release around 1:23 p.m. that Floor Leader Kwon and Acting Commissioner Lee were scheduled to meet at the National Assembly at 1:40 p.m., 17 minutes later.

Spokesperson Seo said, "Floor Leader Kwon wanted to meet to wish a speedy recovery and offer condolences to the police officers recently injured and all those hurt on site, and to give several requests for a peaceful assembly," adding, "We express deep regret over the unilateral cancellation of the appointment."

When asked by reporters whether the unilateral refusal was to reject the meeting request or if the Acting Commissioner broke the mutual agreement to meet, Spokesperson Seo replied, "They made an appointment but suddenly said they could not come," adding, "It is difficult to understand."

Acting Commissioner Lee was attending a current affairs inquiry of the Public Administration and Security Committee held at the National Assembly at 2 p.m. on the same day.
