Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Kim Deok-hyun) announced on the 20th that it will accept applications for the Low-Carbon Agriculture Program pilot project (field crops) until the 14th of next month.
This project provides activity expenses to farmers who wish to participate in achieving the national greenhouse gas reduction targets through low-carbon farming activities. Eligible activities include mid-season drainage, shallow water irrigation in rice paddies, biochar application, and autumn plowing (rice straw return).
Eligibility requires that the farmland cultivating rice eligible for basic direct payments in the application year, excluding fallow and abandoned land areas and areas cultivating other crops in paddy fields, must be at least 20 hectares in scale. Eligible applicants include agricultural corporations, producer organizations operating self-governing funds, and agricultural cooperatives. The support amounts per hectare are 150,000 KRW for mid-season drainage, 160,000 KRW for shallow water irrigation, 364,000 KRW for biochar application, and 460,000 KRW for autumn plowing.
To apply, representatives of corporations or organizations wishing to participate who meet the eligibility criteria must submit the project registration application and related documents to the Agricultural Policy Division of Yeoncheon-gun within the application period. After submission, farmers belonging to the selected organizations carry out the activities and submit supporting documents. The Korea Rural Community Corporation will conduct on-site inspections and compliance verification to finalize the payment recipients.
A Yeoncheon-gun official stated, “Since responding to climate change is an essential task in the agricultural sector, we hope that corporations and farmer organizations will join in reducing greenhouse gases and contribute to realizing sustainable agriculture.”
