Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk, Says "Constitutional Amendment Needed Before Experiencing Another Misfortune Like Presidential Imprisonment"... Proposes Cabinet System and Dual Executive System

The National Assembly Should Also Be Changed to a Bicameral System

Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said on the 19th, "We must amend the constitution before experiencing another shock like the president's imprisonment."

Through Facebook on the same day, Governor Lee stated, "The reality where the sitting president is imprisoned is a shock to the people and a collapse of national dignity, which is very regrettable. South Korea is the first country in the world to have grown from one of the poorest countries to a top 10 economic power and transformed from a recipient of aid to a donor country."

He continued, "With the Korean Wave of K-pop, dramas, and food, South Korea is the envy of not only developing countries but most countries around the world. However, domestically, social issues such as conflict index, suicide rate, low birth rate, elderly poverty, and regional extinction are piling up, and politically, there has been a continuous history of unfortunate events including resignations, assassinations, impeachments, and imprisonments of past presidents."

Governor Lee said, "Even during the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye, I strongly advocated for constitutional amendment to prevent creating another unfortunate president. This time, we must definitely change the presidential system to a parliamentary or dual executive system, and amend the constitution to a bicameral legislature to prevent the harms of one-party dominance in the National Assembly. Let us create the 7th Republic, a world-class South Korea, through political system reform."
