Chief Judge Cha Eun-kyung of the Seoul Western District Court, who issued the arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol, is under police protection.
According to Yonhap News on the 19th, Chief Judge Cha requested police protection after being assigned to preside over President Yoon's pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) on the 17th.
At around 2:50 a.m. on the 19th, Chief Judge Cha issued the arrest warrant, stating that "there is a concern that the suspect may destroy evidence." This is the first case in constitutional history where a sitting president has been arrested.
Immediately after the news of the warrant issuance became known, supporters of President Yoon stormed the Seoul Western District Court looking for Chief Judge Cha, but it was reported that she was not on the court premises at the time.
