The cultivation reporting system is the first step for producers to proactively and voluntarily participate in supply and demand adjustment. Since 2021, the Garlic and Onion Compulsory Checkoff Fund Management Committee has been leading this initiative.
Eligible applicants are agricultural business operators who cultivate at least 1,000 square meters (300 pyeong) of garlic or onions. If both crops are grown, each must be reported separately.
According to the Agricultural and Fisheries Business Entity Act, if information such as the cultivated crop or farmland changes, the farming household is required to report the changes. Failure to do so may result in disadvantages, such as a 10% reduction in the basic public direct payment.
However, due to busy farming activities and low awareness of the importance of reporting changes, there have been many cases where changes were not registered in a timely manner.
Accordingly, if farmers agree to the agricultural business entity change notification by the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service when submitting the cultivation report to the garlic or onion checkoff organization, the business entity information can be updated without submitting a separate application.
Cultivation reports can be submitted by accessing the websites of the Korea Garlic Association and the Korea Onion Association, filling out the 'Cultivation Report Area Survey' with the farmer's personal information, cultivation site address, variety name, cultivation area, and checking the business entity change notification.
