On the 17th, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council held a confirmation hearing for Park Seong-min, the candidate for director of Pohang Medical Center.
Park Seong-min, the candidate for director of Pohang Medical Center, has worked as an adjunct professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Keimyung University School of Medicine for 13 years, and simultaneously operated a neurosurgery clinic for 30 years. As an expert, he has extensive experience both as a medical professional and as a responsible manager.

원본보기 아이콘The confirmation hearing committee for the Pohang Medical Center director candidate was composed of 12 members, including all members of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council's Administrative, Health, and Welfare Committee and three members recommended by the council chairman. The committee conducted an in-depth evaluation from various perspectives to verify whether the candidate possesses the leadership, job performance ability, morality, and qualifications necessary for the head of a regional public hospital.
The committee members focused their questions on measures to secure excellent medical personnel for the regional medical center under the current medical circumstances, ways to ensure both public interest and profitability as a public medical center, and the role of Pohang Medical Center in improving the local healthcare environment, which is in a difficult situation. They also urged active communication with the provincial council to resolve urgent issues such as medical specialization and securing outstanding medical staff at Pohang Medical Center.
Candidate Park Seong-min expressed his aspirations as a candidate, stating, “Based on my experience as auditor and chairman of the Korean Medical Association, I will coordinate interests among staff and strive to enhance the transparency and efficiency of the medical center’s operations to become a trusted medical institution for local residents.”
Committee Chair Kwon Gwang-taek emphasized, “Pohang Medical Center, as a regional responsibility medical institution, must provide high-quality medical services to local residents and, at the same time, fulfill its social responsibilities as a public medical institution.” He added, “The provincial council will do its best to support Pohang Medical Center in properly fulfilling its role as a public medical center. I ask the candidate, once appointed as director, to carry out his duties with a sense of mission so that Pohang Medical Center can establish itself as a trusted and reliable medical institution for the local community.”
Meanwhile, once the confirmation hearing report on candidate Park Seong-min is submitted to the Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, the appointment process for the director of Pohang Medical Center will proceed, and he is expected to take office as the 21st director of Pohang Medical Center.
