Anonymous Donor in Gangneung Donates Rice for 15 Years... Heartwarming Stories Nationwide

An anonymous donor who has been sending rice worth millions of won every holiday for 15 years to help neighbors in need in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, continued their good deed this year as well.

According to Yonhap News on the 17th, citing the Ponam 2-dong Community Service Center in Gangneung, Gangwon, a faceless philanthropist donated 150 bags of 10kg rice (worth about 3.75 million won). This philanthropist has reportedly sent 150 bags of rice every Lunar New Year and Chuseok holiday annually since 2010, for 15 years.

The total amount of rice donated every holiday reaches an impressive 3,400 bags. Over the years, the community center officials, including the head of the district, have cautiously suggested revealing the donor’s identity, but the philanthropist has politely declined to disclose their business or name, preferring to keep their good deeds private. It is known that this donor once lived in Ponam 2-dong, Gangneung, and began donating out of a desire to help neighbors after achieving some financial stability.

Lee Jeong-sun, head of Ponam 2-dong, told Yonhap News, "We are once again grateful for the warm heart of the donor who never forgets the neighbors in need in Ponam 2-dong every holiday." She added, "We will carefully deliver the donations so that neighbors who feel more lonely during the holidays can have a warm and comforting holiday."

Recently, an anonymous donor also appeared in Andong, Gyeongbuk Province. On the evening of the 15th, the donor gave 100 chicken coupons worth about 1.9 million won to the Gangnam-dong Administrative Welfare Center, asking that they be used for a good cause. The coupons were inside a thick white envelope, but no name or contact information was provided. The Gangnam-dong Administrative Welfare Center also received 50 chicken coupons from an anonymous donor in December 2023.

The Munbaek-myeon Administrative Welfare Center in Jincheon-gun, Chungbuk Province, also recently received a pink piggy bank from an anonymous donor. The donor, who did not reveal their name, said, "Although it is a small sharing, I gathered courage to spend a warm winter with neighbors in need," and expressed hope that the donation would be well delivered to those who need help before quietly leaving.
