Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, announced on the 16th that he delivered a letter to Donald Trump, the next President of the United States, last week.
In the letter, Governor Lee extended his congratulations to President Trump on his inauguration and politely requested that President Trump attend the 2025 APEC Summit, which will be held in Gyeongju this fall, emphasizing that thorough preparations are underway to successfully host the event and that his attendance would help promote the interests of all member countries, including the United States.
Although Governor Lee was officially invited to President Trump's inauguration by the Trump Vance Inaugural Committee, he decided not to attend, judging that it was more important to focus on stabilizing the domestic livelihood situation and preparing for the APEC Summit. Instead, he delivered the letter to Trump through Pastor Kim Jang-hwan, who attended former President Carter's funeral as a representative of Korea.
Meanwhile, on the 2nd, Governor Lee proposed via SNS sending a ‘Bipartisan Delegation’ to the 21 member countries and an ‘Economic Delegation’ led by Choi Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, dedicating all efforts to the successful hosting of the 2025 APEC Summit.
