The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) has decided to establish future redevelopment plans for the first-generation new towns and to promote the expansion of redevelopment to aging planned cities nationwide, including Haeundae in Busan, Yeonsu in Incheon, and Dunsan in Daejeon.

On the morning of the 15th, MOLIT held a review meeting for the support organizations for the redevelopment of aging planned cities at the Government Complex Sejong. Together with seven support organizations under the Act on Redevelopment of Aging Planned Cities (Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation, Korea Real Estate Board, Korea Land Information Corporation, Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, Korea Transport Institute, and Korea Legislation Research Institute), they reviewed this year’s work plans.

MOLIT stated, "We will implement support measures for establishing special redevelopment plans for leading districts of the first-generation new towns and prepare future redevelopment plans for the first-generation new towns, including phased redevelopment."

In the first half of this year, a preliminary project implementer will be selected to participate as a public implementer in the leading districts of the first-generation new towns. Next month, a task force (TF) for permanent rental housing redevelopment and a TF for housing supply and demand management will be formed. In March, MOLIT plans to prepare review guidelines concerning the "Promotion Consultation and Basic Plan for Leading Districts in Local Aging Planned Cities."

MOLIT said, "We have decided to promote the expansion of redevelopment to aging planned cities nationwide, including Haeundae in Busan, Yeonsu in Incheon, and Dunsan in Daejeon, and discussed detailed plans for this purpose." Fourteen aging planned cities nationwide, excluding the first-generation new towns, are currently establishing basic plans. This year, nine cities will newly begin establishing basic plans.

Lee Sang-joo, Director of the Land and Urban Office at MOLIT, urged, "We ask the support organizations for redevelopment of aging planned cities to join forces to ensure that redevelopment of the first-generation new towns and aging planned cities nationwide proceeds smoothly."
