Chonnam National University Holds Farewell Ceremony for 21st President Jung Sungtaek

Chonnam National University announced on the 15th that it held the retirement ceremony for its 21st president, Jung Sungtaek, who completed his four-year term.


The ceremony for President Jung Sungtaek was held on the 2nd floor of Yongbong Hall at the university headquarters on the 14th, with more than 400 attendees including Chonnam National University faculty and students, Chosunghui, President of the Chonnam National University Alumni Association, Kang Gijung, Mayor of Gwangju, Shin Sujeong, Chairperson of the Gwangju City Council, Lee Jeongseon, Superintendent of Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, Yang Obong, President of Jeonbuk National University, and Song Hacheol, President of National Mokpo University.


President Jung Sungtaek, an alumnus of the School of Medicine at Chonnam National University (Class of 1980), previously served as Vice Dean and Dean of Student Affairs at the School of Medicine before beginning his term as the 21st president of Chonnam National University on January 15, 2021, and leading the university for four years until the 14th.


In his farewell address, President Jung Sungtaek said, "Seventy-three years ago, even in uncertain times, Chonnam National University was founded with the aspirations of the local community for future generations, guided by the principles of truth, creativity, and service. Even after 73 years, I hope that Chonnam National University will continue to proudly exist as an institution that fulfills its educational responsibilities as a leader of change, maintaining its unique identity even in times of crisis."
